I know you’re probably sick of us by now, but we couldn’t leave without saying a massive thank you to our wonderful Costume, Props & Hair and Make-up team! They spent all day yesterday clearing out our wardrobe of all their beautiful designs. We’d also like to give a special thanks to @maddermarket_theatre for all your support with costume, and letting us source such amazing pieces! Up top, from left to right we have: Agne Giedraityte (Costume designer) who has loved ‘seeing all of the collaborative costume work onstage’ Jessica Parker (Wardrobe Supervisor) who loved ‘working on all my characters alongside my year group’ Rebecca Blasdale-Smith who’s enjoyed ‘working with a fantastic cast’ On the bottom row: Katy McEntee (Costume Assistant) who has loved ‘seeing all our hard work pay off’ Grace Sutton (Costume, Hair & Make-Up supervisor for Chalk Circle) who has ‘enjoyed growing in confidence onstage during this process’ And Jenna Chafer (Props Supervisor for Chalk Circle) who has relished in ‘performing alongside my peers, and putting on some great theatre’ On the next page we have - Savanah Selleck (Costume, Hair & Make-up for Grapes) who hopes to do justice to ‘the incredible voice, vision and spirit of migrants who inspired this story’ Jacob Brown (Costume Assistant) who says ‘it’s been cool to see some of the costumes being used that I’ve made myself!’ And finally Fran Hall who has done a wonderful job as Costume Design Assistant for The Grapes of Wrath! Wow! So much work has gone into creating the overall aesthetic of both of these iconic plays. We are so thrilled to have sold out 5/6 of our performances, and that these timely and touching stories have been able to reach such a wide audience!
And that’s a wrap! Chalk Circle ended on a high today, with a wonderful full audience! But we’re not done showing the faces behind both these productions... Here are our magnificent movement directors: Katherine Edwards (left) says she has loved ‘learning new skills in choreography’ and Emily Wright (right) says ‘it’s been exciting to explore these new styles of dance with this cast - it’s a challenge I’ve enjoyed immensely!’ Bring on the final performance of Grapes of Wrath tonight!
Behold our Set Construction team! Without their sawing, sanding, painting and plastering our stages would look very bare indeed... Alfie Snow (t. left) says he’s been ‘looking forward to getting these productions on their feet and tackling these important issues’ Nyree Williams (t. right) says she is loving ‘strengthening my voice, and dancing, which is proving to be a challenge but is also very rewarding!’ Tara O’Sullivan (b. Left) has enjoyed ‘working with everyone in rehearsals and learning new skills in the process of constructing a set!’ Molly-Rose Treves (b. right) says she is loving all parts of the production! Now when you flick through we have: Seb Fear (left) who is ‘looking forward to bringing audiences a slice of humanity through both of these plays’ Whereas Geronimo Bennington-Poulter (top) has been loving his quality time with our industrial power tools and ‘would like the opportunity to use them more in both domestic and professional life!’ And finally Shem Jacobs says he has loved delving into the characters and ‘exploring how they express Brecht’s ideas!’ Wow! What an eclectic bunch of set constructors. Half of whom are onstage performing in ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ as we speak! Theres still chance to bag your tickets for ‘The Caucasian Chalk Circle’ in our bio.
Ever wondered who has been responsible for the constant bombardment of Exodus across your screens? Well wonder no more!! Here are the faces behind our PR & Marketing team; we have been putting together pics, vids, posters, programmes and much much more! Ella Dorman-Gajic (t. left) says she is ‘excited to be performing & producing such powerful & morally divisive plays, and through this exploring the increasingly topical issues of refuge, wealth and power’ Livie Armes (t. right) says she is loving ‘producing a great season of theatre that makes a strong comment on current state of affairs’ Rohan Gotobed (b. left) is ‘most excited about being part of two amazing productions and getting to work with such an amazing company!’ Liam Purshouse (b. middle) says he is ‘super excited to work with my fellow third years, and show the world what we have to offer!’ Francesca Forrest says she ‘can’t wait to hear the audience reactions to these really fascinating plays, and the hard work getting them on stage!’ If you want to hear more about our experiences working on these productions, you can now listen to the interview Ella and Rohan did with BBC Norfolk, now on their Sounds play!
Here we have our smashing sound team! Up top we have The Caucasian Chalk Circle soundies (from left to right): Eavann Mallon is Sound Designer and she is ‘excited to bring Georgia to life through a combination of sound and music.’ Aimee Wright is on Sound Production and she is ‘most looking forward to exploring the challenges of playing male roles, particularly in terms of physicality’ Rosie-Anne Peat is also on Sound Production and says she is ‘excited to bring all the elements of the show together’ Bellow we have the Grapes of Wrath sound team: Jenni Pettican is the Sound Designer and is ‘excited to get dust on my dancing shoes for the big country dance’ Pete Rapp is on Sound Production and has ‘relished the challenge of merging live music & sound with the action on stage’ Katie Smith is also a whizz at Sound Production and says she has loved ‘the amount of time we have had to bring these characters to life’ We hope you’ve liked reading more about our crew; who also all appear as actors in both our shows! We can’t wait to show off all our multi-talented theatre folk!
Look at our lovely lighting lads! They have been loyally rigging, fiddling and patching their way through our Exodus season. Fergus O’Loan (left) is lighting designer for The Grapes of Wrath and he says he is ‘really enjoying the ability to expand my creative muscles and commit to such a large scale project’ Charlie Douglas (right) has been in charge of lighting for The Caucasian Chalk Circle. He says he is ‘excited to experiment with the space of the UEA studio as both actor and lighting designer’ Yesterday we finished our dress run of The Caucasian Chalk Circle and today we move onto The Grapes of Wrath!
‘The Grapes of Wrath’ is the timeless tale of a refugee family, jilted by the world around them. This play has never been more prevalent today. We hope you resonate with both of our Exodus stories... coming up next week. . . . . #grapesofwrath #joadfamily #dustbowl #california #exodusuea #ueadrama #norwichtheatre
Introducing our wonderful Musical Directors! Becky Pick (left) says she is ‘most excited to see how the music fits into the overall show, and how this ambitious project comes together’ Katy Maloney (right) says she is ‘most excited about transforming Brechts words into a composition that I hope people will enjoy!’ Exodus will be presenting a catalogue of original music in just under five days, opening with The Caucasian Chalk Circle!
It’s less than a week to opening night for The Caucasian Chalk Circle! We are nearly ready to share this story with you, get you tickets from the link in our bio! 🎭
